Australia welcomes 2012 with millions enjoying firework amazing around the country,

SPECTACULAR fireworks displays erupted approximately the country as millions of Aussies fare welled an often distressing 2011 and welcomed 2012 with fresh expect overnight.

For some it was a night of unforeseen and unnecessary drama – with the spire of the Melbourne Arts Centre catching light during its fireworks show and an under the influence man facing surgery after trying to jump a boundary marker in Sydney.

A post penetrated all the way through his left thigh.

But for millions of Australians it was a party to remember for all the right reasons, with Sydney’s “Time to Dream” theme capturing the thoughts and giving expect.

“It’s totally inspiring, it’s given me a lump in my gullet,” spectator Miranda Fiske said.

Connor Burstow, an Irish tourist, added: “It’s a great theme really, stunning, thought provoking and awe stirring.”

Sydney and many other cities got the party started with family-friendly displays just hours before the main event.

One-and-a-half million revelers watched in Sydney, counting Jenny and Simon Oakshott, celebrating their first wedding centenary at Darling Harbour.
